3rd Workshop on Gym Ball Exercises on 20th September 2014

Sancheti Healthcare Academy had organised a workshop for its final year students on Gym Ball Exercises under its mentoring, development and enhancement initiative for its students. The 3rd workshop for the first half of the batch was taken on 20th September 2014.

This workshop is on the same grounds as for all the other Physiotherapy delegates and aimed at making its students the best professionals. The workshop was taken with an objective of making the Physiotherapists aware of the various aspects of gym ball and its application in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, sports and fitness.

It also helps the physiotherapist choose the right gym ball and also helps in choosing the right environment for exercise session using the swiss ball. It also helped the learners choose the most appropriate approaches for treatment of patients as well as self fitness enhancement using the gym ball.

The workshop consisted of theoretical orientation to the gym ball for around 30-40 minutes followed by practical sessions on performance of exercises with the gym ball. The pre-lunch session covers the core, abdominal and back (spine) exercises which is with increasing challenge levels incorporating warm up session with this. The workshop challenges the levels of difficulties of performance of the delegates and also brings out realisation of using the ball for almost all aspects of exercises for fitness enhancement.

Post lunch session tackles lighter activities and exercises for the legs, shoulder, chest and upper limb. A course manual specifically designed with illustrative photographs is provided to the delegates for understanding the aspects and helping in recollection of the exercises as well. Also a revision at the end of the workshop helped the learners recollect and remember the exercises in a much better manner.

The workshop has 24 delegates and used 6 gym balls and 1 BOSU ball for helping the delegates practice with comfort and ease. Also this helped develop a group activity and a sense of team work in all the delegates along with care, support and togetherness.

A feedback taken from the delegates showed the following:

A select comments are included to give a better perspective.

In all, the workshop was a fantastic learning experience for everyone, including myself. Learn with recreation was the best part of it.
